Is fucké a word in French? (#554)

12 March 2013 by OffQc

A googler landed on OffQc with these search terms:

is fucké a word in french

Yes. It means “messed up” or “screwed up.”

Although it’s derived from the English word “fuck,” the French word fucké doesn’t carry the level of vulgarity you might expect it to.

It’s definitely an informal usage, however.

C’est fucké ton affaire!
That’s so messed up!
(i.e., Your situation is so messed up!)

Yé fucké ton ordi!
Your computer’s screwed up!

There’s also the verb fucker:

J’ai toute fucké mon ordi.
I’ve completely screwed up my computer.

C’est toujours intéressant de voir comment le sens et l’usage des mots empruntés évoluent selon les langues, fucké en est un bon exemple !

I should add that it’s not entirely impossible to translate it as “fucked up” depending on the context, it’s just that the vulgarity of the English word “fuck” is lost.

    Il y a aussi «fucker le chien» : http://oreilletendue.com/2012/04/30/du-chien-et-de-ses-usages-au-quebec/

J’ai toujours entendu ce-mot ci lorsque je visitais Montréal. I always assumed it was outright swearing. Merci pour le post! 🙂

Thanks for this interesting post! 🙂 J’ai une question pour vous. Est-ce qu’on prononce le verbe “fucker” avec un “u” comme en anglais ou comme en francais?

    • on 12 March 2013 at 22:04 OffQc

Edgardo, «fucké» rime avec «poqué». Le «u» ne se prononce jamais comme le «u» français dans «tu».

        Merci beaucoup! 😉
